- Students are less dependent on teachers in contemporary times as they learn to become independent at early stages of life. Ever since they are young, especially in Western societies, children are educated to become independent by participating in part time job. This is because with independence, many students find in easy to identify hobbies of their own which can lead to their future jobs. Such trend is indicated by the dramatic increase in the number of students joining part-time job even when they are as young as 13 years old. Because they are already exposed to the society and have a sense of what their society is like when they are young, they do not need to be dependent on adults, especially teachers for guidance. Therefore, teachers are not considered as important as they were in the past to students; it became difficult for teachers to earn respect from students.

The role of teachers became less significant compared to it was in the past. In the past, teachers were considered as the only source of education. However, these days, as the technology has developed, it became easier for students to learn outside school, utilizing the technology they have. Using laptops students have, they register for online courses which do not require the help from teachers. Sometimes, they can prosper their learning by searching up documents online by themselves. to illustrate, when I missed a single class when I was in middle school, I felt very anxious. In fact, I went to school even when I was sick because school was the only place I can study with the help of the teachers. However, in high school, even though I missed the whole class for a week, I did not feel anxious at all because I could study alone at home with my laptop. This illustrates that teachers receive less respect from students than those in the past because their role has been replaced by the technology.
