Teachers today receive less respect from students than those in the past because students are simply too busy. Due to the worldwide enthusiasm to teach children more knowledge, students now have to obtain a tremendous amount of knowledge in various fields of study. Since many students have to obtain knowledge outside of school and work on academics too, they simply do not have time and energy to put forth their effort to respect teachers. For example, many parents in Korea try hard to provide as many after-school lessons as possible. Once, I tutored a Korean elementary school student English. His mother sent her child three after-school lessons: Chinese, English, and Math. I thought it was overwhelming to the child, but according to him, his friends had many more after-school lessons than he did. Most of his friends finish their lessons around 12am without resting or playing in the middle, but he was glad that he could finish all the lessons around 8pm. Because children learn so much from outside of school, they often neglect homework from school. If they had respect for teachers, this should not have happened.
