Focusing on achieving realistic goals can prevent people from wasting time on meaningless activities. When people give up in the middle of achieving goals, the activities they have done during the process can be considered as “meaningless”. It is better to end up with some achievement than to give up on a dream in the middle after investing a lot of time to achieve an ambitious dream. Considering this, people do not need to waste their time on activities that would not even contribute to the achievement, when they strive to achieve realistic goals. To take a common example, my uncle ,who is almost 50, used to be an ardent dreamer. Because he wanted to become an expert in computer, he invested almost a half of his life on studying computer. Even though it was a dream he always wanted to pursue, he had to face the reality when he realized that he has his family members that he is responsible to take care of. Therefore, he had to give up on the dream and all the time he had spent on becoming a computer expert turned out to be useless. If he had focused on realistic dreams, he would not have had to regret not spending time on a realistic dream.
By following realistic dreams, it becomes easier for people to be employed since companies in the contemporary times prioritize results over the process. Companies always employ people based on their resumes and portfolios which can only contain results of potential employees. This means that even if people strived to achieve ambitious goals and learned a lot throughout the process, this would not be shown in the resume as an important factor since the results were not produced. Therefore, it will become easier for people to be employed when they follow realistic dreams. To be more specific, these days, the society is more competitive than ever. One of the indications of such competitiveness is a high number of people trying to take standardized tests. Every month or week, thousands of people register for TOEFL, SAT or even other licences.This is because without standardized test results, companies do not consider people as intelligent workers. It may be true that the process of how they became they are now can be explained through interviews. However, evaluation of results and documents always comes first before the interview. The results can only be obtained when people can actually proceed with achieving realistic dreams. This clearly illustrates that when people do not focus on achieving realistic dreams, it will become hard to obtain job opportunities.
