1. All university students should be required to take basic science courses even if it is not the field of their study.

No

a. Students should concentrate on their major areas. Studying their specialized major areas is the most important thing for students because competency in their own area will help them get great jobs. As students get older, a good professional capability is the only thing that actually matters. This may sound a little far-fetched, but it¡¯s true, and for this reason, investing time in other activities is a waste of time.

b. For example, when I was a freshman in a university, my major was literature. I did not attend courses like basic science which are not related to my major areas so that I was able to concentrate on practicing reading literatures and writing critical essay. As a result, I entered top-ranking publishing company. It had such a huge influence on me that I believe that all university should concentrate on their professional competency.

c. Students who have other major areas should not be required to take basic science courses. They usually do not have interests in basic science field so that they do not tend to participate well in the course. There is an old saying, ¡®students make their class atmosphere.¡¯ This proverb emphasizes of value of students¡¯ scholastic attitude for courses to be a faithful course. Because students¡¯ attitude is bad because of their lack of motivation, attending basic science courses is meaningless and remain nothing for students.

d. For instance, when my father was a sophomore, his major was economy. But he was enforced to take basic science courses by a university. During that semester, he was not interested in the contents he learned at all so that he did not ask questions or complete his homework. After semester ended, he was upset from the fact that nothing in the course was meaningful for him. The example clearly illustrates that students whose major is not related to science should not be required to take basic science courses.
