7. In order to succeed, it is better to be like others rather than different from everybody else.
- It is better to be different from everyone else in order to succeed because one should be outstanding at least in one area.
Ex) not many successful ppl -> successful means achieving goal -> nothing is easy to achieve
8. Some people always follow their dreams even if the dreams are ambitious. Some think we should focus on achieving realistic goals. Which do you agree with?
- People should follow dream that are realistic because people are less motivated for dream that seem too far away.
Ex) friend dream: getting into Harvard -> no good grades -> not too motivated
9. A challenging and interesting job is better than a job with long vacations.
- A job with long vacations is better than a challenging and interesting job because the challenging and interesting job may cause extreme stress in employees. Many people receive much stress for challenging work because it often requires much more effort and overtime working. Since challenging and interesting jobs most likely exhaust the employee, a job with long vacation is better.
Ex) Important project in a company -> work overtime for several months -> fatigue -> always want to move
-A job with long vacation is better than a challenging and interesting job because people can seek more interesting and challenging activities outside of work. Challenging and interesting activities like rock climbing can give more satisfaction to people. Since people with long vacation have more time to enjoy such activities, it is better to have a job with long vacation rather than a challenging and interesting job.
Ex) Job with much leisure time -> playing bowling & more time with friends -> happy
10. It is better to spend money on traveling and vacation than save money for the future.
- It is better to spend money on traveling and vacation than save money for the future because there are things people cannot do when they get older. Each tour site has its unique activity, but some activities like sky diving and rock climbing may be too intimidating for older people. As there are certain activities that require youth, it is better to spend money on traveling and vacation.
Ex) Family trip to San Diego -> sky diving -> father not recommended ->
- It is better to spend money on traveling and vacation than save money for the future because people learn a lot about the world while traveling. Traveling provides opportunities to learn about different cultures, lifestyles, people themselves. Since inspiration from traveling can change young people’s life in a better way, people should spend money on traveling and vacation rather than saving money for the future.
Ex) traveling -> inspired -> start a café business -> millionaire
11. People spend too much money on their pets even though there can be other good ways to spend money.
- People spending money on their pets is never too much money because pets are part of a family. Nowadays, the notion of family has changed in a way that dogs or cats people raise are also considered members of a family. Since many people consider their family the number one priority, spending money on pets which are a part of family is never too much.
Ex) Many older ppl live with pets and no one else -> pets are family -> those ppl spent all their earnings for pets
- Although there may be many good ways to spend money, spending money on pets cannot be considered less important because pets in return give much to their owners. When the owners are sad or bored pets can become be comfort for them and entertain them. As pets give priceless things to their owners, spending money on pets is never too much.
Ex) My dog -> sad -> talk to the dog -> feel better
12. When people spend a lot of time watching sports on television or following their favorite team, it has negative effects on their lives.
Spending a lot of time watching sports on television or following their favorite team does not have negative effects on their lives because it sometimes become virtue of life for some people.
Ex) LA Dodgers -> play well -> happy -> more desire to work hard to purchase world series tickets
Watching sports on television or following their favorite team gives opportunities to make friends.
Ex) Wathcing soccer game -> cheer for same team -> become close friends
