Two benefits of subsurface locomotion
There are two benefits of subsurface locomotion. A type of lizard species, sandfish, one of the most interesting species doing subsurface locomotion, shows two advantages of it.
First one is a control of body temperature. Sandfish can acquire lower body temperature by digging into the sand because underground has lower temperature than the surface of ground.
Second beneficial feature of it is to help them in hunting. being underground makes it easier to catch vibration, it means ground amplifies the vibration of upper ground organisms. Those amplified vibrations are great supporter of hunting prey.
In conclusion, there are two helpful features of subsurface locomotion, controller of body temperature, and supporter of hunting prey.
