Two benefits of subsurface locomotion
The professor is discussing subsurface locomotion. He provided an example of sandfish to explain two benefits of subsurface locomotion.
First sandfish use subsurface locomotion to avoid heat in order to survive in the desert since they are cold-blooded animals. So, they dig into the sand to control the body temperature.
The second benefit sandfish gain from subsurface locomotion is for hunting. Since the desert is a barren place, sandfish can struggle searching for their prey. So, sandfish dig into the sand because being underground can amplify and they sense the vibration of their prey with their entire body.
Therefore, those are the two benefits of subsurface locomotion.
