In the lecture, the professor gives an example of sandfish to explain two benefits of subsurface locomotion.
First, sandfish are cold blooded animals. They control their body temperature to survive. The dessert surface¡¯s temperature is very high so they avoid this by digging deeper into the sand.
Second, they dig deeper in order to hunt. In the dessert, it is hard to detect prey. Therefore, they dig deeper into the desert in order to amplify the vibrations of their prey. It can help sandfish to locate their prey.
.
Therefore, these are two benefits of subsurface locomotion.
