In the lecture, professor is discussing about two benefits of subsurface locomotion. He gives an example of sandfish. First, sandfish are cold blooded animals. If their body temperature gets higher than 39 degree Celsius, they face death. They have to consider their body temperature therefore they have to dig into the sand to avoid heat. Moreover, due to their environmental condition, sandfish have to go dig into sand for hunting. Hunting is difficult on the surface of the land because in barren places have nowhere to hide for hunting. Once sandfish go into subsurface it provides vantage point because they can detect small vibration of their prey. Therefore, sandfish hunt underground. These are the benefits of subsurface locomotion.
