(TS) First the course can effect the students grades.
(ES) University students have to take care of their grades which is essential for graduating, however if the student has a basic science course which is not related to their field of study the grades wouldn't be that good. The bad science grade will affect the whole grade of the student and the average grade will be low.
(AE) When I was in high school I once had a Japanese class which was required for all students. I had many subjects to study and I didn't study Japanese at all.
(SS) Eventually I flunked Japanese and it effected my whole grade which I believe will happen to university students with their basic science course.
